WHO WE ARE

The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then, the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. The national website has plenty more information on the history of the WI.

Leicester Ladies had their first official meeting in October 2009 and since then it has gone from strength to strength. Our women's community group has members of all ages and walks of life, and welcomes any women interested in making friends, learning new skills and contributing to local life.

In March 2025 we moved to Stoneygate Baptist Church, 315 London Road, LE2 3ND. We meet every 3rd Monday of the month at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

We have a variety of educational and inspiring speakers and time to catch up with fellow members, as well as discussing local and national WI events and issues.

There are plenty of fun activities to get involved with and we're always looking for new ideas and contributions to our meeting schedule and subgroups.
